Coinbase folded Commerce into Coinbase Business.
Coinbase Commerce let merchants take crypto into a wallet they controlled, in many assets, open to merchants worldwide. Coinbase Business works the other way: Coinbase holds the balance, it is built around stablecoins, and it adds bank cash-out, invoicing and accounting tools.
Coinbase says plainly that this will not suit every merchant, and that businesses outside the United States and Singapore need another provider for now. If you liked Commerce because the money stayed in your own wallet, that is the part to replace.
Funds left in a Commerce wallet are still yours.
Commerce wallets were opened with a 12-word seed phrase that you held, not Coinbase. Since 31 March the Commerce withdrawal tool is gone. Coinbase says you may still reach the funds by importing the seed phrase into a compatible wallet, but some balances may not show, because Commerce used a new address for each payment.
Coinbase cannot recover a lost seed phrase. Its transition article lists where to look for a backup and how to contact its team.
How the options compare.
Three ways to keep taking stablecoin payments. Swaps has two products, because some merchants also want bank transfers.
| Question | Coinbase Business | Swaps Payment links | Swaps Crypto processing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who holds the money | Coinbase, for you | Bridge on bank legs until it settles; then you | You, in your own Swaps Wallet |
| Who can join | A legal entity in the US or Singapore | Businesses and verified individuals, where enabled | Accounts with a Swaps Wallet |
| To start | Business verification and a business bank account | Draft free; verify to activate | No bank account for direct crypto; provider routes may require checks |
| Customers pay with | USDC; USDT announced | Bank transfer, or USDC on Base, Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism | USD stablecoins on Tempo, or USDC from those five networks |
| Fee | 1% for merchants moving from Commerce | Crypto on Tempo or Relay: payer adds 1%. Cross-chain via Bridge and bank: 1% is deducted from what you receive | 1%, paid by your customer on top |
| You receive | A Coinbase balance, with bank cash-out | Your bank account or a USDC wallet | The full amount, on Tempo |

When Swaps fits, and when it does not.
Swaps fits if
- You want stablecoin payments to land in a wallet only you control.
- Some customers want to pay by bank transfer, not crypto.
- You want the fee and the partner named before anyone pays.
Look elsewhere if
- You need Bitcoin, Ether or many coins. Swaps takes USD stablecoins only.
- You need a Shopify or WooCommerce plugin. There is none.
- You need automatic recurring charges. They are not available.
Availability depends on your account and country, and each product shows it before you start. If Swaps is not enabled for you yet, we would rather say so than sell you a dead end.

Trust
Your wallet, your key.
Crypto processing settles to a Swaps Wallet secured by a passkey on your device. Your passkey authorizes wallet sends. Provider and token restrictions may still apply.
Swaps provides the interface and transaction coordination.
Bank-service provider
Bank payments are processed by Bridge and its banking partners, named before you pay and never swapped silently.
