Sui (SUI)
Next-gen blockchain. Parallel execution, instant finality.
What is Sui?
Sui is a layer-1 blockchain that, like Aptos, emerged from Meta's Diem project and uses the Move programming language. However, Sui took Move in a different direction — creating a variant called Sui Move that introduces an object-centric model where every asset on the chain is a distinct, ownable object.
This object model enables a unique approach to scalability. Transactions that touch different objects can be processed in parallel without any coordination, achieving sub-second finality for simple transfers. Complex transactions that do touch shared state still benefit from Sui's high-throughput consensus.
Sui has gained traction particularly in gaming and consumer applications, where its ability to handle high transaction volumes with low latency matters. The zkLogin feature lets users create Sui accounts using existing Google, Apple, or social media credentials — removing the need for seed phrases entirely.
How Sui Works
Sui treats everything on the blockchain as an object with a unique owner. When you send a token, you are transferring ownership of that specific object. Because each object has a clear owner, transactions that involve different objects do not interfere with each other and can be processed simultaneously — no global ordering needed. For simple transfers between two parties, this means near-instant finality. For more complex operations involving shared objects, Sui uses a consensus protocol to determine ordering, but still achieves sub-second speeds.

Team & Development
Sui was built by Mysten Labs, co-founded by Evan Cheng (CEO), Sam Blackshear, Adeniyi Abiodun, George Danezis, and Kostas Chalkias — all former Meta engineers who worked on the Diem and Novi projects. Mysten Labs has raised over $300 million from investors including a16z and FTX Ventures. The mainnet launched in May 2023.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Sui different from Aptos?
Both emerged from Meta's Diem project and use Move, but Sui modified Move to be object-centric. This allows Sui to skip consensus for simple transfers, achieving faster finality. Aptos uses a more traditional account-based model with parallel execution.
What is zkLogin?
zkLogin lets you create a Sui wallet using your Google, Apple, Facebook, or other social account — no seed phrase needed. It uses zero-knowledge proofs to verify your identity without exposing your credentials to the blockchain.
What wallet supports SUI?
Sui Wallet (official browser extension) is the primary option. Suiet, Ethos, and Navi are also available. Ledger support exists through select wallets.
Can I sell or swap SUI?
Yes. Swaps supports selling SUI for fiat and swapping it for other tokens.
