SKALE (SKL)
Elastic sidechains for Ethereum. Zero gas fees for dApps.
What is SKALE?
SKALE is a multi-chain network of Ethereum-compatible blockchains designed to scale dApps. Instead of everyone competing for space on Ethereum mainnet, developers can deploy their applications on dedicated SKALE chains with zero gas fees for end users. Each SKALE chain is customizable and can handle thousands of transactions per second.
SKL is the token used for staking, security, and governance. Validators stake SKL to run nodes and secure the network. Developers pay a subscription in SKL (or fiat converted to SKL) to lease a SKALE chain. Users transact on SKALE chains without paying gas — developers cover the costs.
SKALE is used by gaming studios, NFT platforms, and DeFi protocols that need high throughput and low costs. Popular projects like CryptoBlades and Exorde run on SKALE chains.
How SKALE Works
SKALE uses a pooled security model. Validators stake SKL on the Ethereum mainnet and are randomly assigned to operate SKALE chains. Each SKALE chain is a sidechain with full EVM compatibility, so Ethereum smart contracts work without modification. Developers rent a SKALE chain for a monthly fee. Users interact with the chain without paying gas because the developer subsidizes costs. Periodically, SKALE chains checkpoint their state to Ethereum for added security.
SKALE Ecosystem
- Elastic sidechains with zero gas fees for users
- Full Ethereum compatibility (EVM)
- Gaming, NFT, and DeFi dApps on dedicated chains
- Validator staking and node operation
- Cross-chain messaging and interoperability
Team & Development
SKALE was founded by Jack O'Holleran (CEO) and Stan Kladko (CTO) in 2018. The mainnet launched in 2020 after a public token sale and development supported by investors including Arrington XRP Capital, ConsenSys Labs, and Winklevoss Capital. The SKALE Network Foundation oversees ecosystem development.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can transactions be free?
Users don't pay gas on SKALE chains — developers do. When a developer rents a SKALE chain, they pay a subscription that covers all user transactions. It's like a SaaS model: the app provider covers infrastructure costs, users get a free experience.
Is SKALE as secure as Ethereum?
SKALE chains rely on validators staking SKL on Ethereum and periodically checkpoint to Ethereum. Security is strong but different from Ethereum mainnet. For most dApps, the trade-off (high speed and zero fees vs. Ethereum L1 security) is worth it.
Where do I store SKL?
SKL is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. Use MetaMask, Ledger, or any Ethereum-compatible wallet.
Can I sell or swap SKL?
Yes. Swaps supports selling SKL for fiat and swapping it for other tokens.
