Stargate Finance (STG)
Cross-chain liquidity. Native asset bridging.
What is Stargate Finance?
Stargate is a cross-chain bridge and liquidity network that lets you send native assets across blockchains instantly. Instead of wrapping tokens (like moving Ethereum to Polygon as wrapped ETH), Stargate allows true native transfers. You send USDC on Ethereum and receive native USDC on Avalanche, Polygon, or Arbitrum — no wrapped tokens, no extra steps.
STG is the governance and utility token. Liquidity providers stake STG to earn fees from cross-chain transfers. STG holders vote on which chains to support, fee structures, and protocol upgrades. Stargate is built on LayerZero, an omnichain messaging protocol.
Stargate has processed billions in cross-chain volume and connects Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche, BNB Chain, Fantom, and more. It's one of the most used bridges in DeFi.
How Stargate Finance Works
Stargate uses LayerZero's omnichain protocol to send messages between blockchains. When you bridge USDC from Ethereum to Polygon, Stargate locks your USDC in a pool on Ethereum, sends a message to Polygon via LayerZero, and releases native USDC from the Polygon pool. Liquidity providers deposit assets into Stargate pools on each chain and earn fees from bridge transactions. The protocol uses a unified liquidity model: all chains share liquidity, so transfers are instant and guaranteed.
Stargate Finance Ecosystem
- Cross-chain bridging for stablecoins, ETH, and native assets
- Liquidity pools on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon, Avalanche, BNB Chain, and more
- STG staking for governance and fee share
- Integration with DeFi protocols for cross-chain yield
- Built on LayerZero for omnichain messaging
Team & Development
Stargate was developed by LayerZero Labs, founded by Bryan Pellegrino, Ryan Zarick, and Caleb Banister in 2021. LayerZero raised funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia, FTX Ventures, and Coinbase Ventures. Stargate launched in March 2022 and quickly became one of the most used cross-chain protocols. Governance is controlled by STG token holders.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Stargate different from other bridges?
Most bridges use wrapped tokens. Stargate transfers native assets. You send USDC on Ethereum and receive actual USDC on Polygon, not a wrapped version. This reduces friction and complexity. Stargate also guarantees instant finality — no waiting for confirmations across chains.
What is LayerZero?
LayerZero is an omnichain messaging protocol that allows smart contracts on different blockchains to communicate. Stargate is built on top of LayerZero to enable cross-chain liquidity transfers. Think of LayerZero as the infrastructure, and Stargate as the user-facing app.
Where do I store STG?
STG is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and BEP-20 on BNB Chain. Use MetaMask, Ledger, or any compatible wallet.
Can I sell or swap STG?
Yes. Swaps supports selling STG for fiat and swapping it for other tokens.
