Loopring (LRC)
Ethereum scaling for trading. Zero-knowledge rollups.
What is Loopring?
Loopring is a layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum that uses zero-knowledge rollup technology (zkRollup). It enables fast, low-cost trading and payments while inheriting Ethereum's security. Instead of settling every trade on Ethereum (which is slow and expensive), Loopring batches thousands of transactions off-chain and posts a cryptographic proof to Ethereum.
LRC is the token used for governance, staking, and paying fees on the Loopring protocol. The Loopring DEX (decentralized exchange) processes trades at a fraction of the cost of Ethereum mainnet, with settlement finality in minutes instead of hours.
Loopring has processed billions in trading volume and holds hundreds of millions in total value locked. It offers non-custodial trading with centralized exchange speed — a rare combination in crypto.
How Loopring Works
Loopring uses zkRollups: transactions happen off-chain, and only a compressed proof is posted to Ethereum. This proof mathematically guarantees that all off-chain transactions are valid, without Ethereum having to recompute every trade. The result is 1,000x throughput improvement over Ethereum L1 while maintaining full security. Users deposit funds into the Loopring L2, trade on the Loopring DEX with near-instant settlement and sub-cent fees, then withdraw back to Ethereum L1 when needed.
Loopring Ecosystem

- zkRollup scaling for payments and NFT minting
- LRC staking for protocol rewards
- Integration with Ethereum L1 and GameStop NFT marketplace
Team & Development
Loopring was founded by Daniel Wang, a former Google engineer and serial entrepreneur, in 2017. The Loopring protocol launched in 2019, with the zkRollup-based L2 DEX following in 2020. Wang stepped down as CEO in 2021 to focus on protocol development. Loopring is governed by the Loopring DAO, where LRC holders vote on protocol changes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Loopring and Uniswap?
Uniswap runs on Ethereum L1 (mainnet), which means high gas fees and slower confirmation. Loopring is a layer 2 solution — trades are faster and cost pennies. The trade-off is that Loopring has less liquidity and fewer trading pairs. If you're making small trades or trading frequently, Loopring saves you money.
What is a zkRollup?
A zkRollup bundles hundreds of transactions together, computes them off-chain, and posts a cryptographic proof (zero-knowledge proof) to Ethereum. Ethereum only needs to verify the proof, not recompute every transaction. This makes zkRollups much faster and cheaper than L1, with the same security.
Where do I store LRC?
LRC is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. Use MetaMask, Ledger, or the Loopring Wallet (which has built-in L2 support). For L2 trading, you deposit LRC into the Loopring L2.
Can I sell or swap LRC?
Yes. Swaps supports selling LRC for fiat and swapping it for other tokens.
